As the charter from London begins its approach, rays of sun beam through the first class lounge, the shutters are raised to reveal the glittering city below. Welcome to Dubai, where the financial and entrepreneurial centre of modern life coexists with it’s historical roots.
Forty years ago Dubai was whirring into action as a financial hub for the worlds’ wealthy. This is an environmnent in over-drive, metamorphosising on a generation by generational basis.
When we view into Dubai’s future, the traveller will aim to stay at one of the soaring luxury hotels that dot the emirates 46 miles of beach. Most appear to be competing for sky-space, as they provide their customers with numerous opportunities to spy a network of islets in the shape of palm trees extending three and a half miles from the coast. Perhaps the most famous, Palm Jumeriah, housing thousands of villas, packed with gadgets, resembling the kind you find in first class London hotels.
Alas, time changes everything. What may not be visible for much longer, inviting all visitors for exploration is one of the key remnants of the past, Deira’s gold and spice souks offer a taste of exoticism belied by the nearby historical landscape. You can visit Deira by wooden Abra. Next is the Bur Dubai ban, where museums exist, an atmospheric recreation of life in yesteryear.
What about past times in Dubai. One of the most well-known is the Horse racing, visit the Nad-Al Sheba-Club race track for a middle Eastern equivalent of Ascot, albeit arguably more extravagant. As the home of the Dubai World Cup, the jewel in the winning horses crown, with price money reaching the millions.

When visiting Dubai, the ultimate dining experience can be found at Ossiano, one of the most famous first class restaurants, with floor to ceiling views of the aquatic life nearby. Exquisitely cooked seafood is served under the management of some of the best Chefs in the world.
The buffet on offer extends way past the food on offer, this is a city area with a vast wealth of well over 500 billion dollars dollars and counting. The Boston Consulting group revealed that approximately one in 25 households in Dubai are classed as millionaires. This may not seem astronomical considering the wealth displayed in and around the city, with some of the cars alone costing half as much, but this towers above the average in other global areas, continually setting a new benchmark, and with a population of fewer than 5 million residents, this puts things into perspective.
Sitting in 29th place in the global city rich list, bolstered by a continued appeal to millionaires who seek a safe environment, exquisite healthcare services, and the luxury that is so often marketed to the wider audience.
