The modern world has industrialised us to practical obsoletion. Providing mankind with the opportunity to obtain an easy existence for literally every task. Where we used to spend 10 minutes, maybe more, boiling water in order to drink tea, we have a kettle; our beds automatically heat us, our chairs massage us. The toothbrush tends to our teeth, and the phone does all the talking.
Somebody turn off the lights. We are being surrounded. The Mind is fading.
The game we play in the modern world often takes place as step through our screens, conforming to the myriad of social gathering places enticing the self we believe we are.
UNCHARTERED TERRITORY
Be the spider, or the fly.
The world wide web is still a metaphysical landscape for our exploration, manifesting either as a dystopian hell, or a veritable heaven depending on our focus or ambition.
Consider the idea of visiting a new place with absolutely no prior knowledge of the environment, customs or ways of life. An alien world where everything is a potential threat to the visitor.
As would a fly, operating with a single objective of darting around hunting for food, with little knowledge or regard of the risks, falling into destruction.
It simply doesn’t see the risks, despite apparently being aware they exist, single-mindedly carrying on self-destructing, until the final demise.
Everybody has to make mistakes, but herein lies the opportunity. In the acquisition of learning, the experience of falling down allows us to experience progress as we gather knew knowledge; we begin to learn and become better at navigating our chosen environment as a result.
The fundamental principal of learning is awareness, remaining clear minded in order to remain open to opportunities, new learning, and epiphanies. As opposed to keeping an empty mind, it is two very different things.
The acquisition of knowledge and the use of knowledge, takes application. To apply ourselves, we have to be aware of opportunities to do so. It is at this point that we acquire the visual and tangible representations of our ideas of success.
There is many example individuals who know much, but lack the the wherewithal to do very little. We once again, visualise the fly, heading for it’s trap.
